Following a fast start in July, August has been slightly slower as we moved from the initial surge of activity into the steady processes required to transfer casks into customers’ own names. This work is detailed and often dependent on third parties, requiring careful handling to ensure accuracy.
Progress in August
The numbers for the month are as follows:
- £396,858.04 in storage debts cleared.
- 2,126 casks transferred to customers.
- 5,848 casks confirmed at warehouses, with inventory reports received and matched to customers.
- 35 inventory reports received from warehouses.
- 4,763 casks are unconfirmed at warehouses due to outstanding inventory reports from other warehouses.
- 55 inventory requests are outstanding from other warehouses.
- 1,341 casks were moved into Volpe & Castello, where accounts already exist or have been opened on behalf of customers (free of charge).
- 1,121 accounts opened for customers.
- 868 casks are now eligible to be DO’d to customers’ accounts.
We encourage all former clients of Cask88 and Braeburn to submit their paperwork to the warehouses so that accounts can be opened and transfers completed. This is the most important step customers can take to ensure their casks are moved into their names without further delay.
On the Warehouse Floor
There has been a significant amount of movement on the ground, with 341 regauging operations completed over the last three weeks alone. This is essential work: ensuring cask details are up to date, volumes are verified, and customers have clarity on what they own.
Our Focus
Edinburgh Cask Management was created to bring stability and transparency to an industry that, unfortunately, has left too many customers facing uncertainty. The collapse of former brokerages created problems ranging from unpaid warehouse bills to incomplete or inaccurate records of ownership.
Our approach is straightforward:
- Clear the debts that were left behind.
- Work directly with warehouses to confirm inventory.
- Open accounts in customers’ own names.
- Transfer casks into those accounts with the appropriate legal documentation.
It is not glamorous work, but it is necessary to restore trust in this market.
Looking Ahead
The road ahead will take time. Many warehouses are still working through backlogs of requests and debt settlements, and we continue to press for inventory reports from those yet to provide them. Our priority remains the same: to ensure that every customer receives proper proof of ownership and that their casks are securely accounted for.
We thank all of our clients for their patience as we continue this process. While the numbers above show progress, we know there is still much more to do. Step by step, we are working to fix the problems caused by the past and to build a stronger foundation for the future of cask ownership.
